Our mission to help American families plan for child care costs
ChildCareCostCalc.com was created with a simple goal: help American families estimate and plan for the real cost of child care. We understand that child care is one of the largest expenses in a family budget, and navigating the costs across different care types, states, and tax scenarios can be overwhelming.
Our free, easy-to-use calculators give families a clear picture of what to expect, so they can make informed decisions about their child care options.
We offer six specialized calculators to address the most common child care planning needs:
Our cost estimates are based on data from trusted, publicly available sources:
All of our calculators are completely free to use with no registration required. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the data you enter into our calculators. Everything runs locally in your browser. We use Google AdSense to support the site, but no personal information is shared with us or any third party.
Child care prices, state minimum wages, and tax rules change every year. We review our state figures against the latest Child Care Aware of America reporting, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, and each state's published subsidy thresholds, and we note the coverage year on every guide (currently 2026). When a state updates its rates or limits, we refresh the affected pages. Because programs and eligibility also vary by county and by provider, treat our estimates as planning baselines rather than exact quotes.
Not financial, legal, or tax advice. ChildCareCostCalc provides general educational information only. For decisions about your specific situation—especially subsidy applications and tax filings—consult a licensed tax professional or your state's child care agency.
